Places of Interest...The Tour de France

Hi all - and we're back again. While we don;t normally exclusively concentrate on sport (as I'm not really the world's greatest sports fan), at the moment we seem to hve a glut of events. So I've taken a look at the Tour de France - as it's now nearing completion, and I was supposed to be on holiday in France too!
I spotted a few of the not quite so expected pics of the Tour such as this one by jipolo - I'm not quite so sure this is the approved way of riding the Tour route...

We do of course on looking find some much more expected pictures of the riders of the tour, such as those by j.gurian

Places of Interest...Bloemfontein (The Football World Cup)

And again I've taken a short break from looking at the various host cities (it's hard work this!), but now I'm back again, and moving onto the next host city - Bloemfontein / Maungang. Co-incidentally England are playing Germany this afternoon there - and whilst I'm not the biggest football fan in the world, one picture did catch my eye - mainly because I DO like Lego, and Christoph! has obviously spent plenty of time creating various Lego inspired pictures...fantastic stuff!!

A second prolific photographer in the region, whom I spotted was Jason Ajax Mercer. He has produced some great portraits and street photography io and around both Blomfontein and other areas of Africa.

Places of Interest...Durban (The Football World Cup)

I've had a short break from updating the blog, but time to crack on...so on with the Football World Cup host cities, and the photos in and around the area! And next up we've got Durban.

Immediately, on looking at the pictures from the region, I spotted a number of outstanding photographers - Dave Atkinson for one. He has some great shots of the stadium in Durban, well worth a look, and some fantastic water droplet photos (which are currently a little hobby of mine, too).

Another photographer I noticed was Angela Bax who is obviously very keen on food, and the photography thereof.

Places of Interest...Rustenberg (The Football World Cup)

Now the world cup is underway, and the first few matches are getting going, it's time to continue with the quick looks I've been taking at photographers in and around the host cities. This time, it's the turn of Rustenberg
Almost immediately one notices that the footbal pics are now going up - with UK Department for International Development featuring prominently on the most interesting list, and doing great job of promoting the work they are doing in Africa.
By far the most prolific photographer in the immediate environs of the stadium is Levi Guimaraes

Places of Interest...Polokwane (The Football World Cup)

And so to the third city of the world cup. The geotagging aorund Polokwane is much less noticeable than around the previous couple of cities, but as always it's produced some great pictures to look at.
We can, of course, hope that with the world cup just around the corner that we'll very soon see a huge increase in the numbers of geotagged pictures from this area!
The photographer who jumped out from this region was Knut Hansen.
He's obviously a keen wildlife photographer, and has got some great shots, particularly this Southern White Face Owl:
